In late June, the iPod iPhone hit the US market. Apple aficionados queued for days to be first in line to get their greedy little paws on the long awaited gadget. fudder-employee Marc Esslinger is an Apple-fan as well . also because he has a very special relationship to Apple. His father Hartmut Esslinger
designed the famous Apple IIc, which was Apples first portable computer (1984). fudder presents Marc's personal Apple-Story and a Photo-Gallery with partly never before seen Apple-Designs of the early 80s. For example: The very first iPhone from 1983.

"In late June, the iPod hit the US market". I think you mean the iPhone, not the iPod.
Krasse Sache.
And now for an appropriate LOLCat moment:
"IM IN UR PHONE
WRITIN UR CHECKS"
That looks like 1993, not 1983... Think about it. The newton was out in the early nineties, and this looks like the newton's OS...
Adam -- I agree; I thought that that gadget looked very Newton-y. OTOH, the Chicago face alone does not a Newton make. If it was really a MessagePad-family product, shouldn't the case have been green plastic, not white? And, admittedly it requires squinting, but if you peer closely enough at the check image, it does look to me like the date on the check is 1984.
YMMV. For any era, I'm not sure I see the point of using a telephone to write checks!
Glückwunsch zur Verlinkung auf boingboing! Das ist schon was.
(Captcha: "bumst".. also was ist zur Zeit mit diesen Captchas los? :D)
Um, apple still sux.
How is the iphone at all hip? Its tied to the most unhip telco ever; att. The monolithic giant scorn by all. Cell phones have allowed us to tell att to bugger off after years of them screwing us.
